Hiking
You arrive in the village of Zirovnica, gateway to the Julian Alps, in the late afternoon. This is your chance to get to know the group and your guide over a convivial first dinner. Spend the night in a hostel, lulled by the excitement of the adventure ahead.
After a short transfer, it's off for three days of roaming. The ascent starts gently through a beech forest before reaching the refuge. Here, you can see the border between Slovenia and Austria. A final effort takes you to the summit of Stol (2225m), the highest of the Karavanke, with a breathtaking view over the valley and surrounding peaks. Overnight in a mountain refuge.
The route follows the border ridge between Slovenia and Austria, offering uninterrupted views of both countries. Between flower-filled alpine meadows and coniferous forests, the hike alternates between aerial passages and open paths. After a descent through a mineral landscape, you arrive at the refuge perched at 1250m, with its warm, rustic atmosphere.
Early departure for a descent into the valley before a transfer to Triglav National Park. A change of atmosphere: after three days at altitude, it's time for the crystal-clear waters of Lake Bohinj. Picnic by the water's edge, a swim for the motivated, then a gentle climb to the refuge perched above the lake.
The route passes through a forest of beech and spruce trees before reaching the valley of the Triglav glacial lakes. Along the way, the landscape changes from traditional mountain pastures to steep limestone crags. Cross the Hribarice pass at 2358m before reaching the refuge perched on a mineral plateau. High mountain atmosphere guaranteed.
Today, it's off to the wild high plateaux of Triglav. Passing by the summit of Veliko Spicje, with an imposing panorama of the Julian Alps. Along the way, it's not uncommon to spot ibex taking refuge on the heights. The descent alternates between panoramic ridges and larch forests before reaching the refuge overlooking Lake Bohinj.
Last descent along an old Austro-Hungarian road to the Slap Savica waterfall. The path then skirts the shores of Lake Bohinj, perfect for a final dip in its emerald waters. Arrive back at the hotel in the late afternoon, where you can collect your belongings and enjoy a final evening overlooking the lake.
After a final breakfast overlooking the mountains, it's time to say goodbye. The trip comes to an end after breakfast, and everyone leaves with a wealth of memories and the desire to come back and explore this wild Slovenia.
My name is Fabien Barret. I was born in Épinal, in the Vosges region, in 1975. At the age of 5, my parents moved to a "remote spot in the forest." As a result, I spent my childhood in this natural environment, exploring on foot, by bike... and building treehouses.
In 2002, I obtained my State Diploma as a Mountain Guide, along with a Mountain Biking certification.
I discovered Slovenia by chance in 2005. Its vast, untouched natural spaces and rich biodiversity make it a unique destination, favoring peace, relaxation, and the discovery of pristine nature. I now spend a lot of time there, exploring this small country on foot or by bike to uncover its hidden corners and traditions
