My name is Fabien Barret. I was born in Épinal, in the Vosges region, in 1975. At the age of 5, my parents moved to a "remote spot in the forest." As a result, I spent my childhood in this natural environment, exploring on foot, by bike... and building treehouses.

In 2002, I obtained my State Diploma as a Mountain Guide, along with a Mountain Biking certification.

I discovered Slovenia by chance in 2005. Its vast, untouched natural spaces and rich biodiversity make it a unique destination, favoring peace, relaxation, and the discovery of pristine nature. I now spend a lot of time there, exploring this small country on foot or by bike to uncover its hidden corners and traditions

Frequently asked questions

What essential equipment should I bring?

Once you’re registered, you will receive the complete equipment list in the following weeks. You will also have the opportunity to speak with the guide well before departure to ask any questions and have plenty of time to prepare.

Do I need mountaineering experience?

No, you do not need mountaineering experience to take part in this trip to Slovenia. This journey is primarily an itinerant hike through the Karavanke and Triglav mountain ranges. It is classified as level 3, meaning daily hikes of 5 to 6.5 hours with elevation gains of up to 1,400 meters. Some sections follow alpine limestone trails with handrails to assist in certain passages. It is important to be comfortable in the mountains, have good physical fitness, and not be prone to vertigo. You will need to carry all your belongings throughout the trip, which requires additional physical effort. No mountaineering skills are required, but prior hiking experience on varied terrain and solid endurance will help you fully enjoy the journey.

How comfortable is the accommodation?

The level of comfort varies depending on the accommodations throughout the trip. The first night is spent in a guesthouse, in a double or triple room, with a shared shower and toilet in the hallway. The following nights are in mountain refuges, in dormitories. Sheets and blankets are provided, but on some nights, there are no showers available. The last night is spent in a hotel, in a double room, by the shore of Lake Bohinj.

Do I need to take care of my own picnics and water management?

Picnics are provided, so you don’t need to be self-sufficient in this regard. Lunches are prepared by the guide or supplied by the refuges. However, when it comes to water, it’s important to plan ahead. Water in the refuges is not potable, but there is often a small stream or a nearby source. It is recommended to bring a filtration system. Bottled water in the refuges costs between €5 and €6 for 1.5 L, which can quickly add up. You should be able to manage your hydration by filtering available water or purchasing bottles at the refuges. As for picnics, everything is taken care of.

What methods of payment are accepted on site?

On-site, it’s best to have cash with you. In the refuges, credit cards are rarely accepted, and payments are almost always made in cash. For purchasing water, drinks, or small extras, make sure to bring euros in cash before departing. Ideally, withdraw some money in town before heading into the mountains if you plan to buy these extras in the refuges. However, everything else is taken care of for you!

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, we attach particular importance to price transparency for our shipments. Our approach is based on a clear breakdown of costs, aimed at providing a better understanding of the elements included in the total amount. Here's how we allocate the percentages:

  • 30% for our guides: We believe that our experienced guides play a crucial role in the success of each activity. That's why we make sure we allocate a significant proportion to pay for their expertise and supervision.
  • 35% for accommodation and food: We consider comfortable accommodation and quality food to be essential elements of an enriching experience.
  • 10% for equipment and transport: The safety and comfort of our participants is paramount. With this part of the total amount, we can guarantee that the equipment required is in excellent condition and adequate for each activity. Transport costs also come into play when they are essential during an expedition.
  • 25% for expedition participation and running costs: These costs cover the logistical, administrative and organisational aspects of the expedition, as well as the overall management of the experience, from start to finish.

Our aim is to provide you with a trustworthy, high-quality experience, while being transparent about how the final cost of your shipment is shared. If you have any further questions about our prices, please contact us here.
