We meet in the morning at the Gioberney car park, right at the far end of the wild Valgaudemar valley, at the gateway to the Écrins National Park.
The trail climbs towards Lake Lauzon, first crossing a valley floor then open mountain pastures; a stop by the water lets us catch our breath, refill bottles and take in the setting before continuing the climb. We then continue on to a first mountain hut along a stonier path dotted with grassy sections, with the first views of the Sirac cliffs appearing on the horizon.
First night in a hut: we settle in and use the free time to rest or watch for marmots on this slope, before a hot meal prepared by the hut warden and a simple evening at the mountain's own pace.
