  1. DAY1/ 3
    • Accommodation - GîteAccommodation·Gîte
    • Climbing - 5Climbing·5h

We meet at 9am at Le Fayet, an ideal introductory site just a stone's throw from Chamonix, to get to know the mountain guide who will be accompanying you and the rest of the group throughout the course.

The day is devoted to a technical warm-up: rock climbing in mountaineering boots, learning the basics of progression and rope handling. Together we discover or revise how to climb safely in easy and varied terrain: support, balance management, abseiling techniques, roping up, etc.

A gentle first day to familiarise yourself with the equipment and the vertical environment in complete safety. Return late afternoon to our cosy gîte in Les Houches for a good dinner and a restful night's sleep.

Hi, I'm August, and I've been guiding in the far north of Norway for over 8 years. Skiing in front of the sea, under the northern lights, or simply enjoying nature, that's what makes me tick. Guiding is above all about sharing my passion and helping you discover places that are close to my heart, in a safe environment. Experiencing exceptional moments in the great outdoors is my raison d'être, and that's what I promise you when I accompany you.

⚠️ For this expedition, August may be replaced by another equally experienced guide, depending on availability. All our guides speak English, and many of them also speak French, to ensure you have an equally rewarding experience.

Coming from the flat country of Belgium and being a mountain guide sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but here I am, Olivier , 33 years old. Very enthusiastic about the idea of getting off the beaten track, it's with boundless enthusiasm that I'll be guiding you through the magical world of the high mountains, far from the hustle and bustle of the valleys. It's with the same enthusiasm that I'll be sharing the conviviality of the post-race moments over a good beer... Belgian!

What level should you expect

Level 3
You should be at least 18 years old to participate
The course requires the appropriate level to ensure group safety and a quality experience, with level verification possible by the guide. If the level is insufficient, access may be refused without alternative or refund.

  • You already practise a regular sport (running, hiking, indoor climbing, etc.) and are comfortable with sustained effort in the mountains (5 to 7 hours of activity per day).
  • You have some experience of rock climbing (indoor or outdoor) and want to learn how to move safely in the high mountains on easy but exposed terrain.
  • The programme alternates between learning techniques (rope handling, belaying, abseiling, ridge climbing) and applying them on beginner-friendly alpine routes (Index, Crochues, or Glière).
  • No prior mountaineering experience is required, but you should enjoy climbing, hiking with elevation gains (up to 800 m per day), and working in a vertical environment.
  • You will stay in a comfortable gîte, so you won’t need to carry a heavy pack—just your personal belongings, lunch, and any loaned equipment.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have done mountaineering before?

We ask that you have previous mountaineering experience. You don't need to have any previous mountaineering experience, but you do need to be in good health and in good physical condition. Then you've got what it takes for this expedition! Not sure about your level? Contact us!

How comfortable is the gîte?

The Tupilak gîte offers simple, warm comfort, perfectly suited to hikers and mountaineers. You'll find dormitories with duvets, hot showers and a friendly communal area. The authentic mountain setting is perfect for relaxing after a day's walking. And the meals are home-cooked, hearty and tasty.

→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or adventure expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, transparency is essential. The price of your expedition reflects a clear breakdown of costs:

  • 30% for our guides, the mainstays of every adventure.
  • 35% for accommodation and meals, essential for your comfort.
  • 10% for equipment and transport, to guarantee safety and fluidity.
  • 25% for organisation and logistics, from first contact to the end of the expedition.
  • 1% for the rewilding of Europe, a concrete commitment to give back to nature what it gives us.

Our priority: to offer you a quality experience, with complete clarity.
