We meet at 9am in front of the Staffal ski lifts. This is where you will meet your guide, who will accompany you throughout the expedition. After an introduction and a check of your equipment, we'll take the ski lift to the Indren station, perched at an altitude of 3,266 metres.
There, we'll learn the basics of safe glacier travel: walking with crampons, roping up, and some simple rescue techniques in the event of a fall into a crevasse.
At the end of the afternoon, we'll take the ski lifts back down to the Gabiet Mountain hut (2,375 m), where we'll enjoy a convivial dinner in the warm atmosphere of an Italian mountain hut. Before going to bed, we'll have a briefing to prepare for the next day.
After breakfast, we'll leave the Mountain hut at around 9.30am and take the cable car up to Indren (3,266m). This is where our real ascent begins.
We'll make our way through a varied terrain of glaciers, rocks and scree, giving you the chance to put into practice what you learnt the day before. We'll also cross a rocky section equipped with a via ferrata secured by fixed ropes.
In the early afternoon, we'll reach the Mantova Mountain hut (3,498 m). After lunch, you'll have the rest of the day to rest and acclimatise, in preparation for the next day's big objective.
We wake up at first light to prepare for a departure around 4.30am. Equipped with our headlamps, we begin our ascent up the Glacier du Lys to the col of the same name, at an altitude of 4,200 metres. We reach the summit at sunrise, offering a breathtaking spectacle.
After a short break to admire the view and the first rays of sunshine, we resume our journey towards the Cabane Margherita, Europe's highest Mountain hut, perched at 4554 metres on the Gnifetti peak. We'll reach the hut at around 9 a.m. and take time to have some Meals in the Mountain hut.
We'll then start the descent along the same route as the outward journey. Depending on the level of fatigue, the preferences of the group and the weather conditions, we might consider adding an extra summit of over 4,000 metres.
Back at the Mountain hut at around 1pm, we'll have lunch before freeing up the afternoon. In the evening, as usual, our guide will give us a briefing for the following day.
After an early start and breakfast at first light, we begin our ascent from the Mountain hut at around 5.30am. Depending on the weather and mountain conditions, we'll have a choice of two peaks over 4,000 metres: Pointe Giordani or Pyramide Vincent.
Once we've reached one of these summits, we'll head back down towards Indren, where we'll share a final meal together. Afterwards, we'll take the ski lifts back to Staffal, where it will be time to say goodbye.
Important note: The distances, times and gradients given are for guidance only. They may vary according to the weather, the terrain and the pace of the group.
Hi, I'm Patrick, a mountain guide from the Piedmont region. I became a mountain guide in 2018 and since then I've never left the peaks! As a mountain rescue instructor, I love sharing my experience and knowledge. Whether in Monte Rosa, my native Piedmont or Valle d'Aosta, the Italian Alps are my playground and my home.
You can travel by train to Pont Saint Martin station (Aosta).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.
You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.
Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.
They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.
If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
