We meet at around 11am in Absiko, where your guide will welcome you and the rest of the group. After a briefing on the trip and the preparation of your equipment, we set off on our first day's walk.

The route follows the Abiskojokk river through a sparse birch forest, before arriving at the Abiskojaure hut, situated on the banks of the eponymous lake. A short day to acclimatise and discover the magic of Lapland. Evening at the refuge and first shared dinner, with the chance to enjoy the sauna at the end of the day.

We start the day by following the glacial valley, a natural corridor through which flow crystal-clear rivers and small lakes. The trail takes us through landscapes dominated by towering peaks and Arctic plateaux. Here, nature is raw and wild, and the feeling of solitude is total.

After several hours' walking in the heart of these untouched spaces, we reach the Unna Allakas hut, set in an imposing alpine landscape. If the skies are clear, we may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the northern lights.

Today is our biggest day of hiking. We begin the ascent, crossing the mountains to the Alesjaure lake, an expanse of turquoise water surrounded by sharp peaks.

After a pause to admire the immensity of the landscape, we descend to the glacial valley of Vistas, framed by the majestic peaks of the Kebnekaise. At the end of the day, we reach the Vistas hut, nestling on the edge of a fine sandy beach - a curiosity in these northern lands.

After the long stage of the previous day, this day is gentler. The trail follows the Vistas valley and gradually rejoins the Kungsleden, the legendary route linking Abisko to Hemavan. We walk through alpine meadows and glacier-carved valleys to the small Sami village of Sälka, where the traditions of reindeer herding are still very much alive.

The Sälka refuge welcomes us for the night, with the chance to relax in its traditional sauna - a must after a day's walking.

We continue our journey alongside crystal-clear rivers and snow-capped mountains. The trail, relatively flat for the first half, winds its way between vast plateaux and wetlands. The second half of the day takes us gradually towards the mountain resort of Kebnekaise, at the foot of Sweden's highest peak. A day where the grandeur of the Arctic landscape is felt at every step.

Last day of walking, mainly downhill. We follow the Kalixälven river as it winds its way through landscapes of tundra and sparse forests. The mountains, which have accompanied us throughout our stay, gradually recede as we approach Nikkaluokta.

Once in the village, we take the time to share a final picnic and exchange memories of our Arctic adventure before taking a transfer back to Kiruna at the end of our stay.

We leave the Kebnekaise station for a final downhill walk, following a river that meanders through the boreal forests. The mountains, which have accompanied us throughout the trek, gradually disappear behind us, giving way to vast Arctic plains.

We reach Nikkaluokta, the final point of our adventure, where we share a final meal together before taking a transfer to Abisko, the starting point of our adventure.

Being able to live adventurously and outdoors is something that's always been on my mind... After completing my 'traditional' studies and entering the world of work, I quickly realised that it wasn't for me. So, after 3 years in a design office, I changed direction and became a guide in as many disciplines as I could: mountain guide, river guide, climbing and mountain-biking instructor.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to do Kungsleden?

The Kungsleden is a legendary route that should be done at least once in your life, whatever the season. Whether you're a hiker in summer or a keen snowshoer or Nordic skier in winter, Kungsleden promises an unforgettable adventure.

I'd like to do Kungsleden in winter, is that possible?

Yes, you can do Kungsleden in any season. If you prefer to do it in winter, we recommend our "Kungsleden on snowshoes" holiday, which you can find in our catalogue.

Can I buy extra snacks on the trek?

Yes, the STF huts in Kungsleden have small shops where you can stock up. More specifically, the Alesjaure, Sälka, Kebnekaise and Nikkaluokta huts have shops selling a selection of biscuits, cereals, snacks, ready meals, tinned food and a few hygiene products or emergency items (such as batteries).

How comfortable are the mountain huts?

The mountain huts are comfortable. You will sleep in shared rooms with single beds. The mountain huts will be heated by wood-burning stoves and you will have access to sanitary facilities with showers and toilets.

Will there be electricity on site?

No, the mountain huts where you'll be sleeping won't have electricity, so you'll need to take an external battery. Welcome to the great outdoors!

What will we eat on this trek?

During the trek, we will provide you with high-quality freeze-dried food from our selected partner, Tactical Foodpack. This type of meal is designed to be both tasty and nutritious, while being easy to transport and prepare in the wild. These meals are specially designed to meet the energy needs of adventurers and are very easy to rehydrate with hot water. So you'll have well-balanced meals adapted to the physical effort involved throughout your trek.

What equipment do we need?

Once you've registered, you'll receive a personalised roadbook with a precise list of equipment to take with you. 3 weeks before departure, we'll also organise a call via Teams with the guide and all the participants to go through the list of equipment and ask any questions you might have.

How heavy will our rucksack be?

As this is a fully autonomous trek, you will have to carry your rucksack on the daily walks.

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, we attach particular importance to price transparency for our shipments. Our approach is based on a clear breakdown of costs, aimed at providing a better understanding of the elements included in the total amount. Here's how we allocate the percentages:

  • 30% for our guides: We believe that our experienced guides play a crucial role in the success of each activity. That's why we make sure we allocate a significant proportion to pay for their expertise and supervision.
  • 35% for accommodation and food: We consider comfortable accommodation and quality food to be essential elements of an enriching experience.
  • 10% for equipment and transport: The safety and comfort of our participants is paramount. With this part of the total amount, we can guarantee that the equipment required is in excellent condition and adequate for each activity. Transport costs also come into play when they are essential during an expedition.
  • 25% for expedition participation and running costs: These costs cover the logistical, administrative and organisational aspects of the expedition, as well as the overall management of the experience, from start to finish.

Our aim is to provide you with a trustworthy, high-quality experience, while being transparent about how the final cost of your shipment is shared. If you have any further questions about our prices, please contact us here.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, whatever the conditions.
Our expeditions are designed to be experienced to the full, come sun, rain, snow or even wind. Our guides are on hand to adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to the prevailing conditions, to ensure the best possible experience.

⚠️ Safety exception: If conditions become truly dangerous (storm, avalanche, flood, etc.), Wildhartt may exceptionally cancel a departure.

📅 This decision will only be taken as a last resort, less than a week before departure.
