Meet at 10am at La Roche Écroulée, at the bottom of the Guil valley. After introducing the group and checking our packs, we begin our ascent along the Guil torrent, deep in a larch forest.
Gradually, the valley widens and the distinctive silhouette of Mont Viso emerges in the distance. The steady but demanding route takes us out of the undergrowth and into a more open landscape, until we reach the Mountain hut on the edge of the mountain pastures.
An optional climb to Lake Lestio (4 km round trip, +100 m) at the end of the afternoon.
A convivial evening in the Mountain hut, dinner prepared by the warden and your first night at altitude.
After breakfast, we continue our ascent towards the Col de la Traversette (2,947 m), the border point between France and Italy. This pass is home to a historic 15th-century tunnel, the "pertuis", which we can cross depending on the conditions.
As we switch to the Italian side, we discover an open, mineral valley, where it's not unusual to spot ibex. A more technical and aerial section requires vigilance, but a less exposed option is possible depending on the group.
The descent takes you past high altitude lakes and boulders, before arriving at the Quintino Sella mountain hut, facing Mont Viso.
We leave the Mountain hut to cross a vast mineral scree in a spectacular setting. The day alternates between valleys and mountain passes, offering sweeping views of the Piedmont.
The descent to Pontechianale passes through pine forests before reaching the artificial lake of Castello. Take a break in a hamlet beside the lake, before setting off again for the steady climb up the Vallanta valley, past streams and mountain pastures.
Arrive at the Mountain hut Vallanta, at the foot of the high Viso cliffs.
The final stage is the ascent to the Col de Vallanta (2,810 m). The well-marked path climbs steadily between rocky bars and scree.
From the col, the view opens out over the Guil valley, the starting point of our itinerary. The loop is complete, with the silhouette of Mont Viso in the background.
We then descend on the French side along a varied itinerary: high altitude path, larch forests and then back along the Guil to the Roche Écroulée in the middle of the day.
Distances and times are given as a guide and may vary according to the weather, the state of the terrain and the pace of the group.

You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.
Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.
They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.
If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
