We meet at 9am in Ljubljana. After a transfer of around an hour, you arrive on the Pokljuka plateau, in the heart of the Triglav National Park. This is a vast forested area, famous for its high-altitude pastures and Nordic ski slopes.
You'll settle in at the hotel, then we'll take the time to adjust your equipment and off you go on your first snowshoe outing around the hotel! The aim is to familiarise you with the equipment and build your confidence before the longer hikes.
In the evening, dinner and overnight at the Pokljuka hotel.
Departure from the hotel at 9am. You begin your first real hike towards the Zajavornik pasture, an alpine pasture surrounded by large pine forests. The route alternates between clearings and wooded paths.
Halfway along, you reach the Blejska Koča Mountain hut, where a traditional Slovenian soup is served: a warm and friendly way to discover the local gastronomy. Depending on the snow conditions, the return journey can take a variant via Rupah, offering a slightly different scenery.
In the evening, dinner and overnight at the Pokljuka hotel.
A short vehicle transfer takes you to the Rudno Polje biathlon centre, famous for hosting international competitions. From here, you'll head through the forest to the Zajamniki mountain pasture, famous for its line of wooden chalets facing an open panorama of the Julian Alps.
The route continues to Uskovnica, another mountain pasture with a traditional atmosphere. Lunch is taken at the Mountain hut, then a short climb takes you back to your starting point.
Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Pokljuka.
After an hour's transfer by minibus, you arrive at the Vršič pass (1611 m), a historic crossing point linking Slovenia and Austria. The path gradually climbs up to the pass, through a more rocky alpine landscape.
From the pass, there is the option of climbing Slemenove Špice, a small panoramic peak offering views of the north face of Jalovec, one of Slovenia's iconic mountains. Depending on the weather and snow conditions, this climb may be adapted or shortened.
In the evening, dinner and overnight at the Erjavčeva Mountain hut, located at the foot of the pass.
The day begins with a short drive down to the Russian Chapel, a small wooden building constructed by Russian prisoners during the First World War. This place of remembrance recalls the history of the region.
You then continue on snowshoes into the valley of Velika Suha Pišnica, following a stream that winds through the trees. The route leads to a glacial cirque, dominated by the wall of Pod Kriško Steno. After a picnic en route, the return journey takes the same route, with a few possible variations depending on the conditions.
Dinner and overnight at the Erjavčeva Mountain hut.
After breakfast, a transfer will take you back to Ljubljana.
Depending on your departure time, you can enjoy some free time to visit the Slovenian capital: its pedestrian streets, its original bridges and the castle that dominates the city. It's a city on a human scale, a pleasant place to stroll around before setting off on your return journey.
Originally from Belgium, I've been living in Slovenia for over twenty years and working as a guide for the last fifteen. I'm passionate about outdoor sports: hiking, climbing, surfing and ski touring. It will be a pleasure for me to help you discover this beautiful little country that has become my adopted home.
Take a train to Munich, then a second train to Villach, on the German border.
From Villach, a direct bus will take you to Ljubljana in 1h40.
It's perfectly possible to get to Ljubljana by car!
If you don't have a car, you should know that we're encouraging car-pooling between participants by creating a WhatsApp group 15 days before departure: an opportunity to get to know each other before you even start your expedition!

You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.
Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.
They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.
If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
