DAY 1 / 7
Accommodation
Auberge
We’ll meet at our hostel in Kiruna at 4 pm. The hostel is easily accessible by taxi or bus from the station or airport, both just 10 minutes away.

Kiruna is Sweden’s northernmost town, nestled in the heart of Lapland. Depending on your arrival time, take the opportunity to explore its unique wooden architecture, Sámi heritage, and the striking history of this mining town in motion.

At 4 pm, your guide will meet you at the hostel, along with your small group of fellow adventurers. After settling in, you’ll be free to enjoy a relaxed dinner together in one of Kiruna’s traditional restaurants. A first taste of the North.

Wake up in Kiruna. The morning is dedicated to final preparations before boarding the train that takes us deep into Swedish Lapland, towards Abisko.

Once there, it’s time to strap on our snowshoes and step beneath the iconic wooden archway that marks the start of the Kungsleden, the Royal Trail. We begin our journey with a 15 km hike through a sparse birch forest, following the winding Abiskojokk river all the way to the shores of the lake.

Our destination for the night is the Abiskojaure hut (487 m). A rustic but cosy hut, equipped with heating, a kitchen, chopped wood, bunk beds with duvets, and… a traditional sauna.

But before enjoying a warm meal and an evening by the fire, there’s one last effort: fetching water from beneath the ice and preparing dinner together. A first taste of adventure and of the simplicity of life in the Arctic wild.

We cross the wide valleys bordered by mountains on our way to Alesjaure. As we move forward, the landscape gradually tightens, the valley narrows, and the mountains grow more imposing around us. The birch forests from the first day slowly disappear, replaced by vast, silent expanses of white that stretch far beyond the eye can see.

Once we reach the hut, everyone naturally slips into their daily routine. Some fetch water, others prepare the fire or help with dinner. The day ends with the warmth of a sauna and the comfort of a shared meal.

We make our way through the main valley to rejoin the Kungsleden trail. This stage is shorter and arrives at the perfect moment in the journey. It poses no particular challenge, apart from the climb leading up to the Tjäktja hut.

As we move forward, the wide open plains gradually give way to narrower valleys framed by snow-covered peaks. We'll stop for a picnic at the Tjäktja hut, which will also be our resting place for the night.

The afternoon offers time to relax, settle into the rhythm of the Arctic, or for those with energy to spare, take a short hike to explore the nearby ridgelines.

Today we're heading for the Tjäktja Pass, the highest point on the Kungsleden trail, reaching 1150 metres. We gradually leave the Padjelanta massif behind as the path begins to descend into a wide, open valley. This vast expanse, silent and snow-covered in winter, transforms into the largest Sami camp in Sweden during the summer months. In the distance, the small wooden chalets of Sälka begin to appear on the horizon.

Once we reach the hut, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. You can relax in the warmth of the refuge or set off to explore the wild and remote Nilla valley, a hidden gem nestled between untouched peaks.

We continue our hike through the wide and majestic Tjäktjavagge valley, surrounded by some of Sweden’s highest peaks, including the dramatic Drakryggen and the iconic Kebnekaise. As we make our way through this grand alpine landscape, we cross a remote and rugged pass that leads us into the reindeer valley and toward the traditional Sámi village of Singi, which remains uninhabited during the winter months.

This is a relatively short stage, allowing us to slow down and fully enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Singi hut, both rustic and welcoming, nestled in the heart of the mountains.
DAY 7 / 7

The final day of the journey takes you to Nikkaluokta, following the wooded valley of the Láddjujohka river. The first two kilometres are gently downhill, and the rest of the route stretches out over flat terrain, making for a peaceful end to the trek.

Be sure to look back from time to time, as you move away from the Kebnekaise massif, its jagged peaks stand out more clearly against the horizon, offering a last striking view of the mountains.

Nikkaluokta is an important hub for the traditional reindeer trade. You might notice it not just by sight, but even by smell, a final sensory encounter with Sámi culture.

From there, a shuttle will take us back to Kiruna, the small Arctic mining town where we began. We’ll spend our last night there and enjoy a final group dinner in town, bringing our northern adventure to a close.

Being able to live adventurously and outdoors is something that's always been on my mind... After completing my 'traditional' studies and entering the world of work, I quickly realised that it wasn't for me. So, after 3 years in a design office, I changed direction and became a guide in as many disciplines as I could: mountain guide, river guide, climbing and mountain-biking instructor.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment do we need?

The top priority is to pack enough thermal clothing, as well as a comfortable winter jacket and trousers for walking long distances. If necessary, clothing and footwear can be hired as an option. Given the long cold days, don't forget to bring a down jacket, two fleeces, warm waterproof gloves and woollen socks. A minimum of category 3 sunglasses and sun cream with a protection factor of 50 are also essential. To protect you from the cold, we also advise you to take hand and foot warmers, as well as a thermos flask for hot water. If you choose to take your own mountain boots or winter boots, make sure they are both warm and waterproof. A more detailed list will be sent to you well in advance of your departure.

Do I need to speak English well to take part?

Our guide Raphael speaks French and English. So you'll have no trouble communicating, whatever your language preference.

What will we eat on the trek?

During the trek, we will provide you with high-quality freeze-dried food from our selected partner, Tactical Foodpack. This type of meal is designed to be both tasty and nutritious, while being easy to transport and prepare in the wild. These meals are specially designed to meet the energy needs of adventurers and are very easy to rehydrate with hot water. So you'll have well-balanced meals adapted to the physical effort involved throughout your trek.

How comfortable are the refuges we'll be sleeping in?

You'll spend a week in comfortable refuges set in the heart of the countryside. The refuges are equipped with a wood-burning stove to keep you warm, a sauna and a fully-equipped kitchen. However, most of the refuges have no electricity or running water, so we'll be melting snow for water. Welcome to the great outdoors!

How comfortable are the rooms?

You will sleep every night in a shared room in a single bed. The beds will be equipped with blankets and pillows, but you will need to bring a sleeping bag liner for hygiene reasons.

Will there be plugs on site?

There will be plug sockets at the first and last huts. On the other nights, you'll sleep in authentic refuges with all the comforts of home, but without power sockets. We therefore recommend that you take external batteries with you.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, transparency is essential. The price of your expedition reflects a clear breakdown of costs:

  • 30% for our guides, the mainstays of every adventure.
  • 35% for accommodation and meals, essential for your comfort.
  • 10% for equipment and transport, to guarantee safety and fluidity.
  • 25% for organisation and logistics, from first contact to the end of the expedition.

Our priority: to offer you a quality experience, with complete clarity.

Do you have any questions? Contact us.

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
