What you will experience

Spend the night at the Chaumailloux sheepfold, facing the "Mont Inaccessible": a legendary hut perched in the heart of France's largest nature reserve.
Cross the ridges and mountain pastures of Jiboui from the Col de Menée, with panoramic views of Dévoluy and the breathtaking cliffs of the Vercors.
Follow the Sareymond stream to the Sappet waterfall, a cool oasis in the middle of the Diois beech forests.
Hike among the lavender fields and sheepfolds of Tussac, where chamois rub shoulders with griffon vultures and bearded vultures.
Climb the ridges of the Tête Chevalière at sunrise, before heading back down to the Col de Menée, eyes still full of the Vercors plateaux.

Meet at 9.30am at the Col de Menée car park, the starting point of our adventure. After distributing our equipment, we'll set off in the direction of the Jiboui ridges and mountain pastures. From up here, the view opens up to the Vercors and Dévoluy massifs, an imposing setting steeped in history.


The descent takes us through beech forests and alpine meadows, along the Sareymond stream to the Sappet waterfall, a haven of fresh air.


At the end of the day, we reach the Diois region, where the climate is milder and the vegetation more southerly. We pass through the hamlets of Les Nonnières and Bénevise before reaching our Mountain hut, a peaceful refuge in the heart of the village, perfect for relaxing after our first day.

We start this second day with a gentle climb through lavender-scented slopes. The path reaches the Tussac sheepfolds, often frequented by chamois. From a small panoramic summit, the view plunges down to the Archiane cirque, home to vultures and bearded vultures.

In the afternoon, we cross one of the "pas" of the Vercors - discreet passages between cliffs - to descend into the Combeau valley, a veritable jewel case of greenery.

Settle into a cosy, authentic inn, ideal for enjoying a good meal and catching up on the day's highlights.

This day marks the entrance to the largest nature reserve in mainland France. We make our way through an isolated valley, surrounded by limestone cliffs and wild mountain pastures. A small, discreet but panoramic summit gives us a 360° view of the Vercors plateaux.


The atmosphere becomes more mineral as we approach Chaumailloux, perched opposite the famous Mont Aiguille or "Mont Inaccessible".


The shepherd's hut at Chaumailloux, a simple, rustic little hut, will be our shelter for the night - an emblematic place in the Vercors, ideal for contemplation and total disconnection.

We start our final day with an early climb to the ridge of the Tête Chevalière, from where there is a breathtaking panorama of the Écrins and Dévoluy.

The path follows the ridge line, lined with gullies and hanging mountain pastures, before gradually descending through pastures and forests.

The end of the stage is spent on a magnificent balcony path, which takes us gently back to the Col de Menée, our starting point.

We finish the tour in the afternoon (4pm), our legs a little heavy, but our heads full of images of raw nature and silence.

Guiding: You will be guided by a qualified mountain leader.
Accommodation: 2 nights in a gîte for comfort after the walk and 1 night in an isolated hut facing Mont AIguille.
Meals: All meals are included from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 4, except for the picnic on the first day, which you must provide yourself. Dinners are taken in the accommodation or prepared together in Chaumailloux.
Collective equipment: Loan of cooking equipment and logistics for the night in the hut (stove, collective crockery, etc.).

Not included

Transport to the meeting point: The return journey to the Col de Menée is not included.
Picnic on Day 1: Bring your own.

What level should you expect

You should be at least 16 years old to participate
  • You'll be able to walk around 5 hours a day, with 600 to 800 m of Ascent.
  • You want to experience your first itinerary in the great outdoors, between forests, wild plateaux and nights in gîtes and sheepfolds.
  • You don't need any previous experience of touring, but you're comfortable with effort and keen to test your limits gently.
  • You'll be carrying a light rucksack with your personal belongings, a picnic lunch and an evening meal in the hut, with everything else taken care of so that you can enjoy the adventure to the full.
  • You're ready to disconnect from everyday life, walk to the rhythm of the mountains and share convivial evenings in the accommodation.

You can get to Grenoble station by train. Once you arrive at the station, take a TER train that will take you to the village of Clelles, just a few minutes from your meeting point.

From there you can ask your adventure companions or guide to drive a few minutes to pick you up.

If you don't have a car, you should know that we are encouraging car-pooling between participants by creating a whatsapp group 15 days before the start: an opportunity to get to know each other before you even start your expedition!

Frequently asked questions

Can I charge my devices on the route?

Yes, you'll be able to recharge your phone and battery on the first two evenings in the gîtes, but on the third evening, at the bergerie de Chaumailloux, there's no electricity, which is also part of its charm. If you want to keep your phone or camera operational, remember to take an external battery.

What if I'm afraid of heights?

Don't worry: there are no technical or exposed sections on this expedition. Some sections run along ridges, but always on wide, safe paths, with the guide at your side. If you're comfortable in the mountains and able to walk for several hours with a change in altitude, you'll be able to enjoy the views to the full without stress.

What equipment should I bring?

Once you've registered, you'll receive a full packlist several weeks before departure. You'll also be able to chat directly with your guide to ask questions and make sure you have everything you need. There's nothing complicated about it: good shoes, a comfortable bag and a desire for adventure are all you need to get started!

Is it necessary to provide cash for Mountain huts?

Yes, remember to take some cash with you. Cards are not always accepted in mountain huts and inns. If you need to buy a drink, mineral water or something extra, bring a few notes and coins with you before you go up. Ideally, you should withdraw some money in town before setting off. Everything else (meals, accommodation, guiding) is already taken care of.

How are we going to get water?

Your guide will point out several sources of drinking water along the way. The gîtes and sheepfolds also have water points. In general, you'll be able to fill your water bottle every day without difficulty, so there's no need to carry too much weight.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.


Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.


They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills.
