Learn to sail off the coast of the Welsh islands

What you will experience

Sail between the island of Lundy, the charming village of Tenby, Broadsands beach and the Blue Lagoon of Abereiddi: secluded beaches, steep cliffs, turquoise bays and colourful little ports make up your week's maritime itinerary.
Helm the yacht, take part in the manoeuvres, explore coves and paths, disembark on secret beaches, paddle a kayak depending on the weather and enjoy swimming stops in clear waters.
From the first safety briefing to the night watches, you will be accompanied by a skipper who will introduce you to the manoeuvres, involve you in the sailing choices and give you a behind-the-scenes look at life at sea.
You'll alternate nights at anchor in wild bays, a night sail under the stars, and an evening in port at Tenby to enjoy fish & chips and a maritime atmosphere.
The itinerary is shaped by the wind and your desires: everyone can suggest, participate, cook, steer or explore, to create a real crew dynamic.

DAY 1 / 8
Accommodation
Sailing boat

We'll meet at 3pm in Swansea harbour for your first encounter with the boat and the rest of the crew. Once on board, you'll take the time to settle in, discover the living areas and listen to the captain's safety briefing. Together, we review the week's progress and everyone's expectations, and we proceed with the refuelling to ensure we're self-sufficient.

Depending on the energy of the group, we can either set off for a short sail to a sheltered cove, or stay in port for a quiet evening, or head for a seaside pub to enjoy the Welsh atmosphere.

DAY 2 / 8
Accommodation
Sailing boat

Today, you're entering the rhythm of the sea. Sailing will depend on the wind, the tides and what the crew want to experience. One option is to head for Lundy Island, a nature reserve known for its cliffs and low stone walls.

After 4 hours of sailing, we choose a sheltered bay to anchor in.

We then set off to explore the surrounding area: a small valley protected from the wind, an ancient dolmen, a path lined with twisted oak trees... Then back to the boat to prepare dinner and enjoy a night lulled by the motion of the sea.

DAY 3 / 8
Accommodation
Sailing boat

After a more or less restful night, we can adapt to our individual moods. If the mood is for coastal discovery, the crew can head for Broadsands Beach, a beach protected by the surrounding rock formations.

After a few hours at sea, we disembark to enjoy the golden sands, stroll around in sandals or explore the little paths leading inland.

The evening is spent at anchor, in a simple, friendly atmosphere.

DAY 4 / 8
Accommodation
Sailing boat

Now that you've spent a few days on the yacht and have got used to the dance of the waves, you can take part in the helming, manoeuvres and changes of pace, always under the captain's supervision.

The arrival in Tenby, with its colourful houses and maritime atmosphere, marks a welcome break: refreshments and a free dinner in a local pub to sample the unmissable fish & chips.

DAY 5 / 8
Accommodation
Sailing boat

You set off again with the wind, skirting the cliffs of St Anne's Head before heading up towards Ramsey Island. At midday, you'll stop off in a clear bay for a swim, with a wetsuit provided if necessary.

The day's objective: to reach Abereiddi and its famous Blue Lagoon, famous for its turquoise waters.

The end of the day is spent ashore, looking for the best viewpoint for the sunset, before spending a quiet night at anchor.

DAY 6 / 8
Accommodation
Sailing boat

If you're looking for a real maritime experience, this is the day for you. Head out to sea for non-stop sailing, organised in small shifts to allow everyone to experience sailing at sunset, under the stars, and then at sunrise.

It's a unique day, often seen as suspended time, between sea, silence and horizon.

DAY 7 / 8
Accommodation
Sailing boat

After the night sail, you'll enjoy a gentler pace. Together, the crew will choose a quiet spot to go ashore: ancient forest, open moorland, moss-covered ruins... It's up to you to decide which you prefer to explore.

The end of the day is spent on board or in a small port, with a shared meal to celebrate the last evening of the week.

DAY 8 / 8
On the programme
End of stay

You slowly make your way back to Swansea to pack up the yacht, do a final check-up together and say goodbye to the crew. The week comes to a close in a warm atmosphere, with memories flooding your mind.

With over 20 years' experience at sea, first as a cabin boy and then as a captain from the age of 18, I have more than 25,000 nautical miles under my belt! For me, sailing is a way of discovering one of the last great wildernesses, as well as discovering yourself and others. It's a discipline and a philosophy that I've already passed on to more than 600 people over the course of my life as a sailor.

Frequently asked questions

Are children allowed?

Yes, of course, children are admitted as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

How comfortable is the yacht?

The Alba is a 13-metre sailing yacht built in 2004. There are 4 cabins, including 3 double cabins, 1 cabin with 1 bunk bed (reserved for the skipper), 1 bathroom and 1 toilet.

How comfortable are the yacht's cabins?

The cabins are double cabins, for 2 people. At your request, we can put a partition between the two mattresses (an anti-roll canvas).

Are there nights at the port?

Often, we only spend one or two nights in port, with the rest of the time spent at anchor, on our own. Depending on the wishes of the crew, we can of course adapt the number of nights spent in port or at anchor.

What about shopping and meals on the yacht?

Most of the time, we cook on board, in pairs, alternating between cooking and washing up. On some evenings, depending on what we feel like doing and the weather, we dine ashore. Before we set sail, we exchange ideas on the WhatsApp group to define the meals and take into account any allergies or preferences. The shopping is done collectively on the first day, with the possibility of buying back a few products during stopovers. Remember to bring a large canvas bag to avoid using plastic bags on land!

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
