What you will experience

Set up your bivouac at the top of the Ballon d'Alsace and wake up sometimes with the Swiss Alps on the horizon.
Climb seldom-frequented paths, from forest to windswept stubble
Put your bag down in a farmhouse inn, warm bread and cheese after the last few climbs
Surprise a chamois at the Tête du Rouge Gazon rather than a hiker
Our guide, Thierry, is also a brilliant photographer – do feel free to bring your camera along for a quick personalised lesson on the spot!

Meet at Remiremont station, which can be reached by train from Brussels or Paris, to meet up with the guide and the rest of the group. We then take a bus to Saint-Maurice-sur-Moselle, the starting point for this adventure in the Vosges.

The hike begins with a gentle climb towards the Ballon d’Alsace, along quiet, little-used paths. We gradually leave the forest behind to reach the ‘chaumes’, those vast high-altitude meadows typical of the Vosges mountains.

At the end of the day, we set up our first camp not far from the summit. The guide helps the group to pitch the tents, organise the equipment and learn the right techniques for spending a night outdoors in the mountains. With a bit of luck, the view from the tents stretches all the way to the Swiss Alps.

I'm passionate about touring in all its forms. Having hiked in a good forty countries on five continents, awareness of climate change has made me narrow my field of action to everything that is accessible from home without using planes and when possible using public transport. As a serial traveller, I like to know where I'm going. The history of places is very important to me, and I enjoy passing on my knowledge.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this expedition for?

This expedition is aimed at people who want to discover roaming and bivouacking in the mountains in an accessible and friendly atmosphere. You don't need to be a great sportsman, but you do need to enjoy walking for several hours with a rucksack and be motivated by three days in the great outdoors.

What level of physical fitness is required?

The days involve several hours' walking with moderate gradients, mainly on mountain trails. The pace is gradual and adapted to the group. This adventure is well-suited to people who have already done some hiking or who are looking for their first accessible trekking experience.

Where do we sleep during our stay?

The two nights are spent bivouacked in tents, in natural areas of the Vosges massif chosen for their tranquillity and immersion. The guide helps the group to set up camp and shares best practice for sleeping comfortably outdoors. The experience is simple, friendly and accessible, even for a first night in a bivouac.

Do you need to have bivouacked before?

No, no previous experience is necessary. The trip is also designed as an introduction to light roaming and life outdoors. The guide explains how to organise your bag, pitch your tent, manage your equipment and live comfortably on your own for several days.

Is bivouac equipment provided?

Your guide will provide you with a tent, but you will need to bring the rest of your bivouac equipment (mattress, sleeping bag, rucksack).

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or adventure expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, transparency is essential. The price of your expedition reflects a clear breakdown of costs:

  • 30% for our guides, the mainstays of every adventure.
  • 35% for accommodation and meals, essential for your comfort.
  • 10% for equipment and transport, to guarantee safety and fluidity.
  • 25% for organisation and logistics, from first contact to the end of the expedition.
  • 1% for the rewilding of Europe, a concrete commitment to give back to nature what it gives us.

Our priority: to offer you a quality experience, with complete clarity.
