    • Accommodation - CampAccommodation·Camp
    • D+ - 300mD+·300mm
    • Activity time - 6amActivity time·6am

We’ll meet at 9.30 am in the village of Jausiers, in the heart of the Ubaye Valley; the day will be spent in the mountains, with no mobile signal, in a wild yet accessible setting. After a short, leisurely approach walk, we’ll choose a spot together and set up our base camp.

The whole day is devoted to practical, hands-on workshops: building shelters, finding and filtering water, managing body temperature, packing your rucksack, and navigation with or without equipment. We’ll also work on managing stress outside your comfort zone, reflex first-aid techniques and role-plays to put what you’ve learnt into practice.

At the end of the day, we practise bushcraft around the camp, prepare our meal and spend the night outdoors, incorporating simple well-being techniques (breathing, posture, walking techniques) depending on the group’s interests.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this expedition aimed at?

This expedition is aimed at people who want to learn how to camp in the mountains independently, calmly and responsibly. It’s ideal if you’re new to hiking and want to learn how to look after yourself in the great outdoors.

What is the aim of this work placement?

This course is not designed to put you in critical or extreme situations. We’re not looking to push your limits, but to teach you how to navigate the mountains sensibly with appropriate, well-used kit. Comfort, safety and an understanding of the environment are our top priorities. The aim is for you to leave with practical skills. You’ll leave with a solid foundation for independent mountain bivouacking, a better understanding of your kit, and greater confidence in your decisions in the field. But above all, you’ll enjoy an immersive and educational experience that will make you want to set off again, either alone or in a group, better prepared and with greater peace of mind.

Will I learn how to use my own equipment?

Yes, definitely. One of the main aims of the course is to teach you how to make the best use of your kit. Pitching a shelter efficiently, managing your thermal insulation, organising your rucksack, deciding what’s really useful and what’s unnecessary… Everything is designed to help you understand why you do things, not just how to do them.

What should I make arrangements for regarding meals during the course?

Lunches and evening meals are not included in the course. You are therefore responsible for bringing enough food to last the entire duration of the course. The aim of our courses is to learn and enjoy a wonderful experience in the great outdoors, not to deliberately put you in a difficult situation. So there’s absolutely no question of going two days without eating! You’re free to pack whatever you fancy, as long as your rucksack remains a reasonable weight. A few tips: Lunch: freeze-dried meals are an excellent option: light, compact and quick to prepare. But a traditional picnic (bread, sausage, cheese, dried fruit, etc.) works just as well. During the day: pack a few snacks (cereal bars, dried fruit, chocolate, nuts, etc.) to keep your energy levels up. In the evening: treat yourself! A good meal shared around the campfire is part of the experience. It’s also a time to relax, chat with the group and make the most of your trip.

What equipment can be hired on site?

It is possible to hire most of the technical equipment required for the course. This includes a sleeping bag, a sleeping mat, a sleeping bag liner, a rucksack, a shelter kit with a tarpaulin, cord and pegs or stones, a head torch and a survival blanket. This means you can take part even if you don’t have your own kit yet or if you want to try out some equipment before investing in it. The full shelter and sleeping kit, which includes everything you need for the night, is available to hire from the guide for €20.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or adventure expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, transparency is essential. The price of your expedition reflects a clear breakdown of costs:

  • 30% for our guides, the mainstays of every adventure.
  • 35% for accommodation and meals, essential for your comfort.
  • 10% for equipment and transport, to guarantee safety and fluidity.
  • 25% for organisation and logistics, from first contact to the end of the expedition.
  • 1% for the rewilding of Europe, a concrete commitment to give back to nature what it gives us.

Our priority: to offer you a quality experience, with complete clarity.
