We meet in the morning in Beaufort, a small town on the border between Luxembourg and Germany and the gateway to the Mullerthal, often nicknamed "Luxembourg's Little Switzerland." The starting point is easily accessible thanks to free public transport in Luxembourg.
The day begins with a loop hike of 10 to 16 km, depending on the level of the group. The trail crosses landscape typical of the Mullerthal: sandstone cliffs, narrow gorges and sometimes damp forest passages. The route has a little elevation gain and lets us move across different types of terrain.
As we walk, we observe the typical rock formations of the area and cover the basics of moving through varied terrain: map reading, effort management and route choice.
Around midday, we reach the Sûre river, a calm and unspoilt waterway that marks the natural border with Germany. After a briefing and preparing the equipment, we set off on our packrafts for a descent of around 10 km.
This paddle lets us progressively discover the basics of packrafting: boarding, disembarking, paddle control and reading the current. We also cover the principles of collective safety in the face of natural obstacles on the river.
The day alternates between effort and small-group learning time, so everyone can gain in autonomy.
At the end of the day, a short walk brings us back to Beaufort, where we spend the night in a comfortable inn. Settling in, debriefing the day and resting.
