Meet at 10.30 am in the small hamlet of Bouvante to meet our guide and the rest of the group.
After lunch and the briefing, we’ll pack our bags for the night: we’ll only take the essentials with us; the rest will stay safe and warm at the gîte. The ascent begins gently, taking us through forests and clearings, with the first views of the Vercors mountains. The pace is gradual, ideal for getting into the spirit of this snowshoe trip in the Vercors.
In the late afternoon, we reach an unmanned hut perched at 1,350 metres, where we’ll spend the night. The accommodation is basic, but the experience is invaluable: we light the small wood-burning stove, some of us go to fetch logs and, under the guide’s guidance, we make ourselves comfortable in the shared dormitory before preparing dinner together.
If the sky is clear, we’ll round off the evening outdoors, gazing at the stars or going for a short walk to warm up before slipping into our sleeping bags.
