DAY 1 / 3
Accommodation
Bivouac by the water
Distance
15km
Activity time
4h
We'll meet you at Souillac station, where we'll collect you before transferring you by minibus to the embarkation point.

After a picnic by the water, we'll begin our first accessible paddle, ideal for getting to grips with the canoe. We pass through Souillac before gradually entering a wilder environment, between cliffs and characteristic meanders known as "cingles".

At the end of the day, we set up camp in the Cazoulès area. This is a great opportunity to discover life in the great outdoors: swimming, fishing (spoon or fly), setting up camp and eating over an open fire in a friendly atmosphere.
DAY 2 / 3
Accommodation
Bivouac by the water
Distance
20km
Activity time
5h

After dismantling the camp, we head back downstream for a leisurely morning, punctuated by swimming and fishing breaks.

Lunch by the water near Groléjac, with the option of refuelling at Carsac-Aillac.

In the afternoon, we cross the cingle at Montfort, one of the highlights of the route, dominated by its castle perched above the river. A short walk to a viewpoint can be arranged if the group wishes.

The descent continues between cliffs, villages and natural beaches, with plenty of opportunities to stop for a swim or a spot of fishing.

We set up camp in the Vitrac area for another evening in the heart of nature.

DAY 3 / 3
Distance
15km
Activity time
3h
We're back on the water for a final morning on the Dordogne, making the most of the setting and the last few moments on the river.

We have our picnic at the foot of Domme, a perched, fortified village with a fine view over the valley.
We then continue our descent past La Roque-Gageac, one of the region's most emblematic villages. Stop off to explore its narrow streets and troglodyte fort.

Further on, the river takes us to the foot of the château at Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, a remarkable sight from the water. A visit can be arranged if time permits.

We arrive in Vézac, at the foot of the château de Beynac-et-Cazenac. We then take the minibus back to Souillac station, where our stay comes to an end.

I'm Hugo, a professional canoe guide in France since 2010. I specialise in multi-day itineraries with bivouacs, mainly on the Dordogne, a river that flows through some of the most beautiful countryside in France. On my trips, we canoe with top-of-the-range equipment, but the experience doesn't stop there. We also discover the local heritage, go fishing, and I introduce you to camp cooking, because gastronomy is an essential part of our culture in south-west France.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this holiday for?

This trip is suitable for anyone who wants to experience canoeing for the first time, without necessarily being an expert. The stages are progressive and the pace remains relaxed, with plenty of swimming, fishing and relaxation breaks. All you need is to be comfortable in the water and enjoy spending time in the great outdoors.

What's life like in a bivouac?

Nights are spent in bivouacs on the banks of the Dordogne, in natural, quiet spots. You'll help set up camp, prepare the fire and prepare a meal in a friendly atmosphere. It's a key moment in the holiday, a time for sharing, nature and disconnecting. All bivouac equipment is provided if you don't have your own.

What should I bring for the bivouac?

You can bring your sleeping bag and mattress if you have them, but they can also be provided. It's important to bring warm clothes for the evening, to keep dry in your water bottle during the day. The rest of the collective equipment is provided.

How do you transport your belongings?

Your gear is stored in the 60-litre waterproof canister supplied, which is placed in the canoe. This keeps your clothes and gear dry throughout the trip, even in splashes.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or adventure expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, transparency is essential. The price of your expedition reflects a clear breakdown of costs:

  • 30% for our guides, the mainstays of every adventure.
  • 35% for accommodation and meals, essential for your comfort.
  • 10% for equipment and transport, to guarantee safety and fluidity.
  • 25% for organisation and logistics, from first contact to the end of the expedition.
  • 1% for the rewilding of Europe, a concrete commitment to give back to nature what it gives us.

Our priority: to offer you a quality experience, with complete clarity.
