Meet at 9am in the village of Cervières, at the foot of the Col de l'Izoard. You'll meet your guide and the other participants for a warm welcome, safety briefing and equipment check (snowshoes, clothing, safety equipment).

The route starts gently along the Cerveyrette valley, which you follow through woods and clearings. In winter, the river is often frozen over, adding a magical atmosphere to the journey. We then reach the plain of Le Bourget, a hamlet perched at an altitude of 1,800 m that evokes the landscapes of the Far North.

The gradual climb up to the Col de Bousson gradually reveals the surrounding massifs, including the majestic Rochebrune. On the other side of the pass, a beautiful descent through the forest takes us to the Mautino Mountain hut, nestling on the Italian side. A warm welcome, a typical dinner and a peaceful night's sleep.

After breakfast, we begin the climb to the border ridge that separates France and Italy. The ascent is made at a steady pace, on open, panoramic slopes.

Depending on the shape of the group and the weather conditions, we have the option of continuing to the summit of the cime de Dormillouse (2,908 m). From the summit, the view is 360°: Écrins, Queyras, Rochebrune and the valleys of Piedmont. A highlight of the itinerary.

The descent is made in often powdery snow, towards the hamlet of Thures, where we spend two nights in a comfortable Mountain hut.

This morning, we're snowshoeing up a superb larch forest typical of the Southern Alps. Tracks of hares, foxes and chamois regularly cross our path.

We reach the Cima del Bosco (2,378 m), an easy-to-reach viewpoint offering uninterrupted views of the Alps and the peaks we climbed the day before. After a well-earned break, we descend directly to the Mountain hut for an afternoon of rest or free exploration around the hamlet.

We leave Thures on a different route, more forested and undulating. The path winds between small passes and snow-covered clearings, ideal for wildlife watching.

A small pass gives us a view of the Lac Noir cirque, surrounded by the familiar peaks of Dormillouse, Cima del Bosco and Bric Froid. The atmosphere is peaceful and wild.

At the end of the day, we return to the Mountain hut Mautino for a final night on the Italian side, punctuated by a good meal and a warm evening.

For this final stage, we cross the Col Saurel after a short, gentle climb. A balcony crossing through valleys and humps offers us a final high altitude panorama.

We then reach the alpe du Guion (1,950 m), a vast pastoral plateau, before tackling the final descent through a ravine of coloured rocks, marked by a beautiful geological diversity.

If we're lucky, we might catch a glimpse of chamois or eagles soaring over the valley. Arrival in Cervières in the early afternoon, the end of the tour.

Walking times are given as an indication only and may vary according to weather conditions, snow conditions and the pace of the group.

Frequently asked questions

How comfortable are the rooms?

The Mountain huts offer a certain level of comfort: you will sleep in a single bed in a room shared with the other participants. Blankets are provided, but it is advisable to bring a sleeping bag liner for reasons of hygiene. There will be heating, showers and electrical sockets.

Will I have to carry a rucksack on the various hikes?

Yes, as we'll be roaming, you'll have to carry your rucksack on the hikes, as we don't plan to transfer your luggage. However, as we'll be sleeping in the same Mountain hut on nights 2 and 3, you'll be able to leave most of your belongings there and carry a light rucksack on the hike on day 3.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
