DAY 1 / 4
D+
500m
Accommodation
Mountain hut

Meet up at 10am in Arêches for a coffee with the guide and the rest of the group. A friendly moment to review the programme and finalise logistical details (including any equipment hire).

A short car-pool transfer takes us to Mappaz (1,300 m), the starting point for the itinerary. We put on our skis for the first gradual ascent into the Poncellamont valley, an unspoilt, quiet area far from the resorts.

As we make our way up, the landscape opens out onto the Lac de Saint-Guérin and its suspension bridge - an emblematic backdrop for the Beaufortain region. The ascent continues under the imposing gaze of the Pierra Menta (2,714 m), the region's legendary summit.

In the late afternoon, we reach the Chalet du Cormet (2,080 m), an unguarded mountain hut typical of the Alpine pastures. This first evening in the mountains is punctuated by a rustic installation, collective preparation of the meal and a briefing on the next day's stage.

DAY 2 / 4

1100m
Accommodation
Mountain hut

After a shared breakfast, we pack up and begin the climb to the Col du Coin (2,406 m). The track winds through vast snow-covered mountain pastures, with no mechanical noise, just the crunch of skins on snow.

From the pass, the view opens up to Mont Blanc and the Vanoise peaks. A playful descent then takes us to the foot of the Pierra Menta, before a final sustained ascent to the Col de Bresson (2,477 m).

At the end of the day we reach the Mountain hut at Presset (2,514 m), perched high above the Pierra Menta. A convivial evening and dinner in the Mountain hut, with time for discussions on effort management, reading the terrain and progressing independently.

DAY 3 / 4
D+
1100m
Accommodation
Mountain hut

We leave our bags at the Mountain hut to explore the surrounding area. There are several options, depending on the conditions:

Mont Rosset (2,449 m): a gradual route, perfect for working on effort management.
Col de la Charbonnière (2,494 m): a more technical route, ideal for practising conversions and reading the terrain.

The aim of the day is to make technical progress both uphill and downhill, while enjoying the spectacular routes around the Pierra Menta.

Back to the Mountain hut in the afternoon for a second night in the mountains. Collective debriefing over a hot meal and a friendly atmosphere.

DAY 4 / 4
D+
1200m

On this final stage, we leave the Mountain hut at Presset and cross the wild and peaceful Treicol valley. After a short climb, we cross the Charmette pass (2,045 m), which offers a superb view of the snow-covered Beaufortain mountains.

The final descent, varied and fun, takes us gradually back down to La Mappaz (1,300 m). Everyone can put into practice what they've learnt during the week and enjoy the thrill of the snow.
A short carpool transfer takes us back to Arêches, where we round off the adventure with a final moment shared with the group.

Distances, gradients and times are given as a guide only. The programme may be adjusted according to the weather, snow conditions and the pace of the group.

IFMGA Mountain guide

Passionate about the mountains, I discovered climbing in the Bouches-du-Rhône before diving into ski touring in the Ecrins. Since then, I've explored various mountain ranges, from Mont Blanc to Dévoluy, in search of pleasure and sharing. For me, the mountains are all about human adventure and working together on projects.

Frequently asked questions

What technical and physical level is required?

You don't need to be a pro, but this holiday is designed for adventurers who are already comfortable with off-piste skiing and are in regular physical condition. If you can ski a full day and manage 800 to 1200 m of positive vertical drop, you've come to the right place!

I'm new to ski touring, is this the right holiday for me?

If you're a complete beginner, we'd advise you to start with a more gentle initiation, so check out our other ski touring expeditions. But if you already have some off-piste experience and want to progress, our guides are there to accompany you at your own pace.

What equipment do you need and can you hire on site?

We've put together a complete list so you don't forget anything, from rucksacks to sealskins. And the good news is that if you don't have everything, there are rental accommodation options nearby. We can even book everything for you, just tick the option when you book.

How many participants will there be per group?

We prefer small groups of 6 adventurers. This ensures a friendly atmosphere and personal attention from your guide.

Do you offer additional training courses or breaks to help you continue to progress?

Of course you can! Whether it's a more technical trip or a more challenging expedition, we've got plenty of options to help you get to the next level. Talk to your guide or explore our other adventures on the site.

How will the appointment go on the first day? What if I arrive late?

Meet at the Serraz car park in Arêches-Beaufort at 10am. We'll have a good coffee before starting our adventure. If something comes up, don't panic, just let us know: we'll make sure you join us at the right time.

Is it possible to arrive the day before and sleep at the hostel?

Yes, at the Hôtel du Viallet you can sleep one night before your adventure. When you book on wildhartt, you can reserve an extra night as an option.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, transparency is essential. The price of your expedition reflects a clear breakdown of costs:

  • 30% for our guides, the mainstays of every adventure.
  • 35% for accommodation and meals, essential for your comfort.
  • 10% for equipment and transport, to guarantee safety and fluidity.
  • 25% for organisation and logistics, from first contact to the end of the expedition.

Our priority: to offer you a quality experience, with complete clarity.

Do you have any questions? Contact us.

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
