Packrafting

Learn to packraft independently on Alpine rivers

April to November
3 days| 2 nights
Level 2
Eco-score 4/5

What you will experience

Leave with the skills to paddle independently: read a river and its flow, choose your section, handle a capsize and paddle safely in a group.
Lay your foundations on the Eygliers lake, then take on the Durance: lines, current reading and your first taste of a real river.
Put in at the Simoust bridge to run the lower Guil: a real mountain river, rapids within your reach and the guide right alongside to help you read them.
Learn the lifesaving basics for rivers: swimming in current, getting back into your packraft after a capsize and helping another paddler.

Itinerary

  1. DAY1/ 3
    • D+ - 50D+·50m
    • kayak - 5 hkayak·5 h
    • Distance - 5Distance·5km

Meet at 9am at the Eygliers lake for a first morning of technical refresher on calm water: adjusting your packraft, fundamental paddle strokes, trajectories and a safety module (equipment, capsizing, river swimming, helping each other).

At the end of the morning, we set off on a first descent of the Durance on a progressive section, to practise reading the current in real conditions. Picnic break with the food you brought.

In the afternoon, we train at the Saint-Clément-sur-Durance whitewater stadium, in a controlled environment: crossings, eddy turns, swimmer recovery and obstacle management.

Back at Eygliers, we settle in at the campsite and share dinner at the campsite restaurant.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone wishing to discover or progress in whitewater packraft. It is open to beginners as well as those with previous experience who want to improve their technique and become more independent. The guiding staff will adapt to the level of each participant to ensure a smooth and safe progression.

What level of physical fitness is required?

You need to be able to exercise for several hours a day. The effort is progressive and varied, with paddling, technical workshops and short walks. The course is accessible if you are comfortable in the water and able to swim.

Is it dangerous?

Like any whitewater activity, packrafting involves risk, but everything is set up so you can progress safely. The course starts in calm water on the Eygliers lake, then moves on to a first progressive descent of the Durance and a session at the Saint-Clément whitewater stadium, in a controlled environment, before moving on to natural sections of the Guil and the Durance suited to the level of the group. Right from the start, you'll learn the right reflexes: river swimming, recovery, reading currents and communication. The guide supervises each passage and adapts the conditions as you go.

What happens if the water level is too high or too low?

The guide keeps an eye on the river flow and adapts the programme every day. If a section doesn't suit the level of the group, we paddle another stretch of the Durance or the Guil, or head to the whitewater stadium, to keep the day safe and fun.

What type of rivers will we be paddling?

You'll be paddling different sections of the Durance and Guil, varied alpine rivers that are ideal for learning. The programme alternates between controlled environments (whitewater stadiums) and natural sections, allowing you to make rapid progress while remaining confident.

Will I really become independent?

Yes, that's the aim of the course. Over the three days, you move on from pure technique to real-life situations, until you can choose a section of river suited to your level, read a flow, anticipate passages and navigate safely in a group. You'll leave with the skills and reflexes to organise your own packraft outings.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or adventure expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful break — some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, transparency is essential. The price of your expedition reflects a clear breakdown of costs:

  • 30% for our guides, the mainstays of every adventure.
  • 35% for accommodation and meals, essential for your comfort.
  • 10% for equipment and transport, to guarantee safety and fluidity.
  • 24% for organisation and logistics, from first contact to the end of the expedition.
  • 1% for the rewilding of Europe, a concrete commitment to give back to nature what it gives us.

Our priority: to offer you a quality experience, with complete clarity.
