What you will experience

Climb to l'Aiguillon, at an altitude of 2569 m, and discover three legendary mountain ranges: Chambeyron, Ubaye and Queyras.
Get a taste of winter in the Southern Alps: picnic in the snow-covered mountain pastures, the crisp air stinging your cheeks and the total silence of the peaks.
Spend your first two nights in a gîte in the hamlet of Fouillouse, a high-altitude village accessible only by a single road, surrounded by white peaks.
Walk along the former military corridor of the Vallonnet then cross the Pas de la Couletta at 2750 m to turn towards Italy, facing two valleys that open up at a glance.
Spend your last night at the Chambeyron Mountain hut, perched at 2600 m, with no warden and no modern comforts, the only luxury being a hot fondue and a sky full of stars.

    We meet at 10am in the hamlet of Fouillouse, our base camp for the next four days. As soon as you set off, you'll be immersed in the atmosphere of the Southern Alps: wooden chalets, the silence of the mountains and the crisp winter air.


    We then set off together along the Chemin du Mézin. All the way up, you'll discover Alpine flora and fauna in winter conditions. Your guide will help you recognise them and understand how these species adapt to the cold.


    Around midday, we stop in the mountain pastures to share a picnic lunch overlooking the snow-covered peaks. In the afternoon, we continue to the summit of Aiguillon: a lookout point offering panoramic views of Chambeyron, Ubaye and Queyras.


    At the end of the day, we return down to Fouillouse. Here you can relax in a cosy gîte and enjoy a good meal.


    Note: For this first day, remember to bring your own picnic!

What's included in the price

Included

Guiding : During these 4 days, you will be accompanied by Lou, an experienced guide who will share his passion for the region with you.
Accommodation: You will spend two nights in a shared room in a comfortable gîte and one night in an unguarded mountain hut.
Meals: All meals from dinner on the first day to the picnic on the last day are included.
Loan of equipment: your guide will provide you with snowshoeing equipment (poles and snowshoes).
Safety equipment: A DVA, shovel and probe kit is provided for each participant.

Not included

The picnic on the first day is not included.
Transport to and from the meeting point.
Any personal expenses you may have.
Everything that is not included in the "what's included in the price" section.

What level should you expect

Level 2
You should be at least 18 years old to participate

  • You are able to walk an average of 4 to 6 hours a day, with Ascent between 650 and 800 m.

  • You are comfortable walking on snow-covered paths with no technical sections (no need for previous experience, your guide will take you step by step).

  • You can carry your rucksack on your own for two days (to reach the Mountain hut).

  • You are ready to spend a night in an unguarded Mountain hut, an immersive high-mountain experience with no gas or running water.

You can get to Fouillouse (04530 Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, France) by car, where you can park your car for free in the car park at the meeting point.

If you don't have a car, you should know that we're encouraging car-pooling between participants by creating a WhatsApp group 15 days before departure: an opportunity to get to know each other before you even start your expedition!

  • If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we will give you a full refund.
Departure is confirmed 15 days in advance for adventures lasting more than 4 days. Departure is confirmed 7 days prior for adventures lasting less than 4 days.

Frequently asked questions

How comfortable is the Mountain hut, apart from the wardens?

The Chambeyron Mountain hut, when unguarded, is equipped with a charcoal stove, blankets, crockery and lighting. However, it has no cooking facilities or water. So it's up to us to provide a stove and a water supply. A truly authentic alpine experience!

Are there any evening activities?

Yes, depending on the weather: stargazing, sharing stories over a mountain meal, etc.

What happens if there's little snow?

We are first and foremost hikers, and when the snow fails we still ensure the departure of our trips. The atmosphere and the winter light are just right, and even if you have to wear snowshoes or do without them sometimes, the scenery is still splendid. So make sure you have good walking shoes.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).


In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or adventure expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.


Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.


They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.


If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?
