Meet at 10.30 am in the small hamlet of Bouvante to meet our guide and the rest of the group.

After lunch and the briefing, we'll pack our bags for the night: we'll only be taking the essentials with us; the rest will stay safe and warm at the gîte. The ascent begins gently, winding through forests and clearings, with the first glimpses of the Vercors mountains. The pace is gradual, ideal for getting into the spirit of this snowshoe trip in the Vercors.

In the late afternoon, we reach an unmanned mountain hut perched at 1,350 metres, where we'll spend the night. The accommodation is basic, but the experience is priceless: we light the little wood-burning stove, some of us go to fetch logs and, under the guide's guidance, we make ourselves comfortable in the shared dormitory before preparing dinner together.

If the sky is clear, we'll round off the evening outdoors, gazing at the stars or taking a short walk to warm up before slipping into our sleeping bags.

We wake up in the cabin to a hearty breakfast by the wood-burning stove. After tidying away our sleeping gear and repacking our rucksacks, we set off for a long day's snowshoe hike across the Ambel plateau, one of the wildest areas in the Vercors.

Our destination for the day is the Tête de la Dame, a beautiful peak at 1,500 metres offering a bird's-eye view of the Quint valley, the Trois Becs and the surrounding hills. Up there, we take the time to enjoy our picnic, whilst the guide shares the basics of staying warm and best practices for staying safe in the mountains in winter.

In the afternoon, the route continues along the ridges. We learn how to read the snow-covered terrain, observe tracks in the snow and, if conditions allow, spot the subtle traces of a large ungulate.

At the end of the day, we make our way gently back down to our cosy gîte, where we settle in for two nights. After this wonderful day out on snowshoes, the evening rounds off with a dinner featuring local specialities.

After two days of breaking trail through the snow, we're setting off today for the Puy de la Gagère, at 1,650 metres, from the Font d'Urle plateau. This new day of snowshoeing in the Vercors takes us onto a snowy, open and exposed plateau, where the landscapes take on an almost polar feel.

From the ridges, the view opens up wide: the eastern ridge of the Vercors, the Dévoluy, the Diois and, on a clear day, the Écrins can be seen on the horizon. The atmosphere is stark, silent and perfectly wintry.

In the late afternoon, we return to the gîte to get ready for the evening. Tonight, we're celebrating New Year's Eve in the Vercors, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. We put on our aprons to prepare a homemade vercouline, share local drinks and treats, and the atmosphere gradually becomes festive.

The evening continues in a cosy atmosphere, filled with laughter, mountain views and the countdown to the New Year. Just before midnight, those who wish to can head out with the guide for a short while into the silent mountains, before returning to the warmth of the gîte for one last night.

A peaceful wake-up after New Year’s Eve. We take the time to recover over a energising breakfast, before strapping on our snowshoes one last time for a gentle stroll along the Karst trail.

This final outing gives us a chance to stretch our legs, enjoy the southern ridges of the Vercors a little longer and bring this winter break to a gentle close. The route remains accessible, perfect for rounding off the trip without any pressure, in the same friendly spirit as the previous days.

By late morning, we’ll head back to the gîte to pack our bags and lend a hand with tidying away the kit. We’ll share one last meal together, then it’ll already be time to say goodbye and start thinking about the next adventure!

Guiding: You'll be accompanied by Claire or Christelle, our mountain guides who know the region like the back of their hand.

Accommodation: You will spend two nights in warm, comfortable mountain accommodation (dormitory) and one night in an unguarded hut.

Meals: all meals are included from dinner on Day 1 to the picnic on Day 4, including homemade breakfasts, picnics and convivial dinners outdoors or in the mountain hut.

Equipment provided: your guide will provide snowshoes and poles.

WHO IS THIS FOR

This adventure is designed for regular hikers who are used to spending days in the mountains and are prepared to spend several days snowshoeing in winter conditions. You must be comfortable with snow, the cold, varied terrain and the basic comforts of a night in an unstaffed mountain hut.

You’re at the right level if:

You can walk for 5 to 8 hours a day in snowshoes, including breaks
You can cover between 300 and 700m of ascent per day depending on the stage
You are comfortable on varied snow-covered terrain: valleys, moderate slopes, exposed ridges and plateaus
You can hike up to around 1,650m in altitude, without any technical sections
You are comfortable carrying a light rucksack for an overnight stay in a mountain hut or a day rucksack
You are prepared to sleep in a shared dormitory, whether in a gîte or a mountain hut
You are happy with the basic comforts of an unstaffed mountain hut: wood-burning stove, shared dormitory and shared organisation

You'll arrive in Bouvante, in the heart of the Vercors massif, surrounded by forests, plateaus and limestone cliffs.

Prefer the freedom of a road trip?

You can drive straight to Bouvante, a village nestling in the Vercors mountains of the Drôme, accessible from Valence or Romans-sur-Isère.

Car parking is available close to the departure point.

Don't forget to carpool: a WhatsApp group has been set up 7 to 10 days before departure to help you make arrangements with other participants.

Who is this adventure for?

This holiday is aimed at women who want to enjoy a warm and welcoming winter experiencein the mountains, without looking for performance. It's perfect for women who enjoy walking for several hours in the great outdoors and want to discover or practise snowshoe trekking in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Do you need to have already tried snowshoes?

No, no previous experience is necessary. The tour is designed to be gentle and accessible. The guide will take the time to explain the equipment, how to walk in the snow and the basics for comfortable progress in winter terrain.

What level of physical fitness is required?

You need to be able to walk for several hours with a moderate gradient, sometimes in deep snow. The days remain accessible, with a pace adapted to the group and plenty of breaks to enjoy the scenery and the guide's explanations.

Where do we sleep during our stay?

The first night is spent in a small hut perched at an altitude of 1350 m, accessible only on foot. The next two nights are spent in a comfortable gîte on the southern crests of the Vercors, ideal for recuperating after a day's hiking. Meals are served in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

How does New Year's Eve work?

New Year's Eve takes place in a warm and intimate atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of the cities. After the festive dinner and local specialities, some participants will be able to go out for a few minutes into the silent mountain just before midnight to experience a particularly memorable passage into the New Year.

Are instalment payment options available?

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or adventure expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
