DAY 1 / 5
Accommodation
Auberge
D+
500m

We'll meet at 9.30am at La Grave in front of the hire shop for a welcome coffee with your guide. This will give us a chance to get to know each other and check that everyone is properly equipped to set off safely.

We then drive to the village of Le Chazelet (about 10 minutes), where we settle in at the hostel. On this first day, we'll get to grips with the equipment and get some technical advice. To do this, we'll climb towards the Signal de la Grave, offering wide, gentle slopes for a gentle learning curve.

We return to the hostel in the afternoon for the rest of the course, with some basic theory on snow and avalanche rescue over a cup of hot tea.

DAY 2 / 5
Accommodation
Auberge
D+
600m

Today we set off on a loop around the Petite Buffe, a local lookout just above Le Chazelet. This progressive itinerary will allow us to put into practice what we learnt the day before: choosing the route, conversions, managing our pace and observing the snow.

It's also an opportunity to refine the right techniques for safe skiing while enjoying the panoramic view of the La Grave basin.

Return to the hostel in the early afternoon, with free time to rest or discuss the day's activities.

DAY 3 / 5
Accommodation
Mountain hut
D+
300m

Let's set off for three days' roaming in the heart of the mountains, with two nights in a Mountain hut!

We leave Le Chazelet for the Mountain hut at Pic du Mas de La Grave, which will be our haven of peace for the night. The ascent is short and gradual, ideal for carrying your bags without rushing.

Once we arrive, we'll take the time to settle in and practise searching for avalanche victims: a simple but essential exercise, guided by your guide. A good way to consolidate the theory you learned earlier, in a practical setting.

DAY 4 / 5
Accommodation
Mountain hut
D+
700m

Today we're off on a more alpine stage, heading for the Cime du Rachas.

The climb is steady, with no particular difficulties, and allows us to gain altitude at a good pace. At the summit, we'll enjoy a picnic with a panoramic view of the Écrins massif, with iconic peaks like La Meije dominating the horizon.

The descent then takes us to our mountain hut for the evening: the Mountain hut les Mouterres, a welcoming and well-located place where we can relax in a friendly atmosphere after this beautiful day in the mountains.

DAY 5 / 5
D+
400m

On this final day, we make our way quietly back down to the valley.

En route, a short diversions to the summit of Serre Bernard is planned, conditions permitting. This high point offers a fine final descent, fun and accessible, to end the trip on a high note.

We return to Le Chazelet in the afternoon, with the satisfaction of having spent five days gradually immersed in the world of ski touring!

Coming from the flat country of Belgium and being a mountain guide sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but here I am, Olivier , 33 years old. Very enthusiastic about the idea of getting off the beaten track, it's with boundless enthusiasm that I'll be guiding you through the magical world of the high mountains, far from the hustle and bustle of the valleys. It's with the same enthusiasm that I'll be sharing the conviviality of the post-race moments over a good beer... Belgian!

The Pic du Mas de la Grave Mountain hut is looked after, warm and comfortable: dormitories with mattresses and blankets, home-cooked meals, wood-burning stove, friendly atmosphere. At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
