We meet at La Grave at 1.30pm to welcome you, check your equipment and distribute your sleeping bags and duvets. We take the time to get to know each other and explain the programme and safety instructions before setting off. The ascent begins on alpine pasture paths, then rises on an alpine slope, with occasional scree slopes, to the Mountain hut du Goléon, perched opposite the Meije (2500 m). During the ascent, we work on our collective rhythm, effort management and educational breaks on route choice and carrying. On arrival, settling into the Mountain hut, evening weather briefing and practical workshop on acclimatisation and the use of appropriate equipment. The aim of this first day is to lay the technical and human foundations of the expedition: we learn how to evolve together in the high mountains and prepare for what's to come with confidence.

After a good night's sleep, we start the first full day with the ascent to the Col du Goléon, progressing over scree and alpine meadows at a guided pace where we work on map reading and effort management in alpine terrain. At the pass, we switch to the Savoyard side of the mountain, crossing ridges and ramps with a direct view of the Aiguilles d'Arves, where we practice our orientation and landmarks. We then climb back up to the Aiguilles d'Arves Mountain hut, approaching it on a mountain path, settling in and receiving a safety briefing on arrival. If the group still has some energy left, we'll attempt the ascent of the Aiguille de l'Epaisseur, almost 1,000 metres of ascent from the Mountain hut, a sustained climb requiring fine-tuned effort management. The guiding staff will regulate the pace, multiply the educational breaks and adapt the itinerary to the group's level to keep the experience accessible. This day brings together practical learning (reading the itinerary, effort management), exploration of a different side of the mountain and collective installation in the Mountain hut, preparing the way for the rest of the stay.

We'll spend the day climbing over the Col de l'Epaisseur, a tricky pass set in a very mineral and wild environment. We climb with a rope party over ridges and scree, alternating between descents on slabs and traverses of unstable couloirs, with belay points provided by the guide. We learn and apply the techniques for progressing on unstable terrain, reading the terrain, managing exposed pitches and safety techniques (belaying, simple belays) in real-life situations. The itinerary is designed to secure the crossing of the col and then switch to the valley where our gîte is located for the night, structuring the day around a clear objective. The dynamic is a collective one: the pace is set by the guide, regular relays and decisions are taken according to the conditions, and we work on coordination as a roped party. Simple comfort in the gîte at the end of the day, technical debriefing and preparation for the next day; accessible to participants in good physical condition and willing to learn under guiding.

We start the day with a sustained climb to the Col de Martignare, offering a first look at the Aiguilles d'Arves (3,514 m) that dominate the horizon. The terrain alternates between stony slopes and ridge sections, and we manage the gradient as a group while the guiding team validates the route. The ascent to the col offers a variety of sections where you can practise map reading, route choice and positioning your feet. From the col, we follow the Buffe ridge for an aerial but controlled ascent that gradually takes us to the side of the Mountain hut. The day finishes at the Pic du Mas de La Grave Mountain hut, where you will find mountain accommodation, a technical debriefing and preparation for the next section. This is a day to combine climbing and ridge traversing: you'll come away with a better grasp of the difference in altitude, consolidated route skills and a stronger sense of group cohesion.

We return to the valley and the hamlets of La Grave for a gentle day devoted to the return and conclusion of our stay. In the morning, a short easy hike on balcony paths and in the valley floor, immersing ourselves in the local architecture and hamlet landscapes. A practical workshop (map reading, packing your rucksack, looking after your equipment) will allow you to brush up on the essential techniques you have learned in the mountains and sort out your equipment if necessary. Lunch in a village gîte or inn, a chance to discuss individual and group progress. The afternoon is reserved for group debriefing, sharing photos and a final drink to reflect on the highlights and lessons learned. We round off the day in the early afternoon with assistance for the transfer or the organisation of the departure, with everyone leaving with practical advice on how to extend the experience.

The Mountain huts offer a certain level of comfort: you will sleep in a single bed in a dormitory shared with the other participants. Blankets and pillows are provided, but for hygiene reasons you should bring your own sleeping bag.

What equipment should we take with us?

Once your enrolment has been confirmed, we'll send you a full list of the equipment you'll need. Throughout the expedition, you will be completely self-sufficient: you will need to pack everything you need in your rucksack.

Do I need to be a good hiker to take part?

To take part in this ruck-supported tour, you need to be able to walk 10 to 15km a day with 1000 to 1300m of D+ off the beaten track.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or adventure expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, transparency is essential. The price of your expedition reflects a clear breakdown of costs:

  • 30% for our guides, the mainstays of every adventure.
  • 35% for accommodation and meals, essential for your comfort.
  • 10% for equipment and transport, to guarantee safety and fluidity.
  • 25% for organisation and logistics, from first contact to the end of the expedition.
  • 1% for the rewilding of Europe, a concrete commitment to give back to nature what it gives us.

Our priority: to offer you a quality experience, with complete clarity.
