We meet at 1pm in Bourg-Saint-Pierre, in the heart of the Swiss Valais.

After checking our equipment and a short briefing, we set off for our first warm-up. Today's route is a gentle climb to the Plan du Jeu mountain hut, at an altitude of around 2000 metres.

The arrival at the Mountain hut marks the start of our altitude immersion. Dinner and overnight stay in a simple, friendly atmosphere.

After breakfast, we continue our ascent towards the Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard, passing through wild, little-frequented areas such as the Combe des Morts.

The arrival at the Hospice du Grand-Saint-Bernard, at an altitude of almost 2,470 m, is a highlight of the itinerary: this place steeped in history is still run by canons and has welcomed hikers for centuries. We settle in, have a hot dinner and spend the night at the hospice.

From the hospice, we set off for a day-long loop at altitude. The main objective is the Fenêtre de Ferret, a natural pass between Switzerland and Italy.

Depending on the weather and the energy of the group, we can continue up to the Tête de Fonteinte for a great viewpoint, and return by the same route or as a partial loop. This third day allows us to walk lightly, adapt to the conditions and take full advantage of the alpine atmosphere. We will then spend a second night at the hospice.

On this final day, we leave the hospice after breakfast. We start our descent through the Combe de Drône, a wild, open valley with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

This final gentle descent brings the tour to a gentle close before returning to Bourg-Saint-Pierre in the early afternoon.

Hi, I'm Virginie. I left my native Switzerland to come and live in Grenoble, France. That's where I discovered the best job in the world: mountain leader!

Since the end of 2023, I've been devoting all my time and energy to this job. I'm always on the move, travelling to the summits on trails, hikes and rock climbs, just to keep things varied! Passing on my passion enriches me day by day, and I'm lucky to be able to do it.

Having loved the mountains since childhood, my passion has become my profession. In my spare time, I set up climbing routes, maintain the trails, go on new ski tours and help run the Refuge des Invincibles in Val Pellice - all to enhance the mountains where I was born. The Vaud Valleys are my ideal base camp, but I'm also regularly in the other massifs of the Alps and the Appennines.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment do we need?

Once your registration has been confirmed, we'll send you a personalised roadbook for your trip containing all the practical information you need, including a list of equipment you'll need to take.

How comfortable are the rooms?

The Mountain huts offer a certain level of comfort: you will sleep in a single bed in a room shared with the other participants. Blankets are provided, but it is advisable to bring a sleeping bag for reasons of hygiene. There will be heating, showers and electrical sockets.

Will I have to carry a rucksack on the various hikes?

Yes, as we'll be roaming, you'll have to carry your rucksack on the hikes, as we don't plan to transfer your luggage. However, as we'll be sleeping in the same Mountain hut on nights 2 and 3, you'll be able to leave most of your belongings there and carry a light rucksack on the hike on day 3.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
