What you will experience

Explore the Champsaur on a 4-day ski touring holiday in one of the most unspoilt valleys of the Écrins.
Every evening, enjoy the comfort of the guesthouse and home-cooked dinners prepared by Harre and Sarah, your warm and welcoming hosts.
Climb several peaks in the Champsaur: Palastre, Pain de Sucre and the Col de Combeau, following a different route each day depending on conditions.
Improve your ski touring skills alongside a high-mountain guide who will teach you how to read the terrain, choose your route and ski safely.

    We’ll meet at 9am in Orcières to meet the guide and the rest of the group, before having a briefing and checking our kit. After this initial introduction, we’ll take a 20-minute transfer to head deeper into the valley and reach the car park for our first hike.


    We’ll start the day with a gentle ski-touring warm-up before tackling the ascent to Le Palastre. Depending on the pace and conditions, we may extend the route to include the Pointe Sud de la Vénasque (optional) or the Pic du Clot Lamiandre, adding around 400 metres of elevation gain.


    We’ll head back down in the early afternoon to the gîte, where we’ll settle in and have dinner together.

Included

Guiding by an experienced UIAGM-qualified high-mountain guide who knows the region well.
Accommodation: You’ll stay for 3 nights in a comfortable guesthouse, in a room for 2 people (bed linen and towels included).
Meals: All meals are included, from dinner on the first evening right through to the picnic on the final day. Meals are prepared on site by Harre and Sarah, your hosts, who specialise in hearty cuisine made using high-quality ingredients.

Not included

Return transport to and from our meeting point.
Technical equipment hire: Ski touring skis, climbing skins, poles, crampons, ski touring boots, avalanche transceiver kit (available to hire when you book).
The picnic on the first day.
Anything not listed in the ‘What’s included’ section.

What level should you expect

Level 3
You should be at least 18 years old to participate
WHO IS THIS FOR?
You regularly go ski touring. You’re confident both on the ascent and the descent, and you want to tackle longer and more technical routes.

You’re at the right level if:
  • You’re very comfortable on the descent, including in challenging snow conditions (powder, hard-packed snow, rutted snow)
  • You can ski for 6 to 8 hours a day
  • You can climb between 800 and 1,000 metres of ascent
  • You do endurance sport at least 2 to 3 times a week
  • You’re comfortable carrying a rucksack weighing 5 to 8 kg
  • You have already completed several ski touring trips
  • You’ve mastered the basics: using skins, changing gear, pacing yourself
  • You know how to use your safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe)

How comfortable is the accommodation?

You’ll be staying in a comfortable guesthouse, situated in the Champsaur Valley near Orcières and on the edge of the Écrins National Park.

How comfortable are the rooms?

At the property, you’ll have two bedrooms, each with two single beds (which can be pushed together depending on the group’s composition), each with its own en-suite bathroom. A third bedroom has a bunk bed and a single bed, also with an en-suite bathroom. Finally, a fourth bedroom is furnished with two single beds and does not have an en-suite bathroom.

How will we get about on a day-to-day basis?

During this stay, we’ll be going on day trips starting from our guesthouse. Each morning, we’ll drive to the starting point of the hike, with journeys taking between 5 and 20 minutes depending on the planned route. It is therefore necessary to have a car for these daily journeys (we’ll share cars to make the most of them).

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or adventure expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.


Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.


They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.


If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).


In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
