Welcome to Finnish Lapland!
We meet at 4pm at Rovaniemi airport. Once the group is assembled, we'll head north for about 1 hour 45 minutes through the great Lapland forests to the chalet that will serve as our base for the week.
Everyone settles into their own space, then we share a convivial moment to get to know each other and present the forthcoming programme.
After breakfast, we leave by van for Pyhä, around twenty minutes' drive away.
You'll put on your snowshoes for a hike through the snow-covered forest and typical Lapland landscapes. There's a lunch break two-thirds of the way along.
Back at the chalet, you can relax and, if you wish, take a sauna to warm up. In the evening, we prepare the meal together. If the skies are clear, you may be able to go out and observe the Northern Lights.
After breakfast, we'll head off to a kennel to learn about sled dogs and meet the mushers.
You will learn how to drive a sled with a practical briefing before setting off for a ride in the snowy forest. After the outing, you can have lunch on site with a traditional Finnish dish (optional).
At the end of the day, return to the chalet for some free time, a sauna if you wish, and then a shared dinner. Another chance to watch the aurora if the weather is favourable.
After breakfast, departure for Luosto, the starting point for the hike.
The route takes you on snowshoes to the amethyst mine site. A coffee break with Finnish biscuits is provided on arrival. Those who wish can visit the mine by headlamp (optional), while others return to the chalet by the same route.
Relaxation evening at the chalet with sauna and communal dinner. Aurora viewing possible depending on the weather.
This day is left free for you to rest or choose from a range of optional activities on offer locally.
You can go downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, visit a reindeer farm or take an extra sleigh ride. This is your chance to experience Lapland at your own pace.
After breakfast, you'll discover Altai skiing, a form of hiking with short skis into which walking boots are fitted.
At mid-day, we'll stop off at a traditional kota, where we'll share a simple, cosy lunch by the fire.
The afternoon is free for you to relax, enjoy the sauna and share a communal meal. A final outing to observe the Northern Lights may be on offer, sky permitting.
This final hike starts in Luosto. You'll take a path through a forest of snow-covered trees, forming veritable candelabras. The aim is to reach the Ukko-Luoston maisematupa viewpoint at the top of the fell.
After a well-earned break at the summit, the descent is via the other side.
Back to the chalet for a convivial evening with sauna and dinner. Depending on the weather, a final viewing of the aurora is possible.
After breakfast, we leave the chalet for Rovaniemi, where the expedition ends.
I caught the polar bug after my first trip to Iceland, and my photographic projects have taken me to even more remote regions of the Far North. I'm now a polar guide and photographer, and I'm keen to share my passion for the polar regions with groups who want to try the adventure of the far north!

If this happens:

→ Or receive a full refund.
You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.
Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.
They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.
If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
