DAY 1 / 5
Accommodation
Mountain hut
D+
850m
Distance
6.5km

We'll meet at 9am in Pralognan-la-Vanoise, where you'll meet your group and guide: welcome, briefing and equipment check.

Once the equipment has been checked, we'll begin our first ascent to the Col de la Vanoise refuge. During the hike, we'll have the chance to admire the breathtaking panorama of the Grande Casse, the highest peak in the massif, and the Aiguille de la Vanoise, the famous limestone spine that stands in the middle of a breathtaking landscape.

Surrounded by majestic mountains, we'll also cross the mythical Lac des Vaches on a stone path in the middle of the water. We'll finish the day in the Col de la Vanoise refuge, perched at an altitude of 2517 metres, where we'll spend a warm evening in authentic surroundings.

DAY 2 / 5
Accommodation
Mountain hut
D+
450m
Distance
14km

Let's continue our discovery of the Vanoise National Park! From our refuge, we'll walk to our second stopover, the Arpont refuge.

Along the way, we'll come across a wealth of fauna, including ibex, ermines, chamois, marmots, golden eagles, bearded vultures and black grouse. The flora is just as exceptional: there are more than 1,700 species - a third of France's flora!

After a great day's walking, we'll meet up at the refuge, where we'll have a chance to sample some tasty local cuisine!

DAY 3 / 5
Accommodation

Distance

After a good night's sleep in the Arpont refuge, we'll be embarking on our longest day's walking.

On the programme: a magnificent hike along wild, mineral paths on the slopes of the Alpine pastures, crossing impressive mountain torrents and breathing in the fresh mountain air.

After a 7-hour day's walk, we'll have a well-deserved rest at the refuge at the bottom of Aussois.

DAY 4 / 5
Accommodation
Mountain hut
D+
1400m
Distance

On this fourth day, we'll be getting up early for our biggest ascent yet: we'll be setting off to discover the Col d'Aussois, a gradual immersion in the mineral world of the Alps.

We'll leave behind the low grasses and wild flowers. This is a place where minerals reign supreme. When the sky clears, we'll be able to see the peaks in the distance. If we turn our gaze northwards, the Roof of Europe will reveal itself majestically. We'll have an exceptional view of Mont Blanc.

At the end of the day, for those who haven't had enough, there's a chance to make the return trip to the Tête de l'Observatoire, a viewpoint rising to 3016 metres and offering a wide panorama of the various glaciers. Back to the refuge after around 7 hours' walking.

DAY 5 / 5
D+
285m
Distance

On this final day, we'll descend from the Valette refuge to our starting point. We'll be walking for 4 hours in magnificent surroundings. A great way to end our tour of the Vanoise!

Frequently asked questions

How comfortable are the refuges?

The high mountain refuges offer a certain level of comfort: you'll sleep in beds with blankets provided (you'll just need to bring a meat bag for hygiene reasons). Half the refuges you'll sleep in have hot showers. So it's easy to get some rest after a great day's hiking.

Should I carry my rucksack?

Yes, this expedition does not involve the transfer of luggage by vehicle, so you will have to carry your bag during the hikes.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or mountain expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.
