Ski touring around the Pierra Menta

January to March
4 days| 3 nights
Level 3
Eco-score 4/5

What you will experience

Cross the snow-covered alpine pastures of the Beaufortain on ski touring, facing the legendary Pierra Menta summit (2,714 m).
Settle into the Mountain hut at Presset (2,514 m), perched opposite the Pierra Menta, for two nights in a warm, alpine atmosphere.
Make technical progress during a day out on a star route: conversions, reading the terrain and fun descents around Mont Rosset and the Col de la Charbonnière.
The tour ends with a 1,200 m descent into the wild Treicol valley, with views of the immaculate Beaufortain mountains.

    • Accommodation - Mountain hutAccommodation·Mountain hut

We'll meet at 10am in Arêches, in front of our partner hire shop, where you can pick up the final essentials for your expedition.

A short car-share transfer will take us to Mappaz (1,300 m), the starting point of the itinerary. We put on our skis for the first gradual ascent into the Poncellamont valley, an unspoilt, quiet area far from the ski resorts.

As we make our way up, the landscape opens out onto the Lac de Saint-Guérin and its suspension bridge, an emblematic feature of the Beaufortain region. The ascent continues under the imposing gaze of the Pierra Menta (2,714 m), the region's legendary summit.

In the late afternoon, we reach the Mountain hut de la Coire (2,060 m), an unguarded mountain hut typical of the Alpine pastures. This first evening in the mountains is punctuated by a rustic set-up, collective preparation of the meal and a briefing on the next day's stage.

Born in Cogne, a village nestled in the heart of the mountains, I grew up surrounded by peaks. At 28, mountaineering has been part of my life since childhood. Today, I'm fortunate enough to be able to turn this passion into a profession: guiding, passing on and helping people discover the mountains who want to experience them to the full.

Sharing these experiences, in complete safety and in a spirit of conviviality, is at the heart of my commitment as a guide. I speak Italian, French, English and Spanish, so I can accompany travellers from all horizons.

Frequently asked questions

How comfortable are the Mountain huts?

You will sleep in mountain huts in shared rooms (dormitories) with blankets and pillows provided. You won't need to take a sleeping bag with you, just a meat bag (sack sheet) for reasons of hygiene.

Will there be showers in the Mountain huts?

In winter, the Mountain huts along the route are at the pace of the high mountains: no showers, but washbasins to freshen up after the effort. Three days back to basics, welcome to the heart of nature!

Is it possible to hire ski touring equipment after registering?

Yes, of course, you don't have to reserve your ski touring equipment at the time of booking. You can still ask us to hire your equipment after you have booked.

Are instalment payment options available?

Yes, that's right! At checkout, you can choose the Alma option to pay for your booking in 2x, 3x or 4x. All you have to do is select Alma at checkout and follow the instructions. It's simple, fast and secure.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, rain or shine. Rain, snow or wind: our guides adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to guarantee you the best possible experience.
Unless safety is at stake (storm, avalanche, flood...).

In this exceptional case, we can cancel an expedition, at least one week before departure.
If this happens:
→ You can postpone your adventure at no cost,
→ Or receive a full refund.

What kind of people usually join Wildhartt expeditions ?

You don’t need to be a top athlete or adventure expert to feel at home. Most Wildhartt participants are between 25 and 60 years old, with a balanced mix of women and men.

Many join solo or in small groups of two or three. They often live in cities and are looking for a meaningful brea some time to reconnect with nature, slow down, and enjoy something real.

They usually have a regular movement practice (hiking, running, yoga...), but not with a competitive mindset. They’re in good shape, but don’t necessarily have technical skills. What brings them together is a shared desire to disconnect, observe, learn, and experience nature in a more grounded, accessible way.

If that speaks to you, you'll feel right at home. The group spirit is kind and open, and the pace adapts to everyone.

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, transparency is essential. The price of your expedition reflects a clear breakdown of costs:

  • 30% for our guides, the mainstays of every adventure.
  • 35% for accommodation and meals, essential for your comfort.
  • 10% for equipment and transport, to guarantee safety and fluidity.
  • 25% for organisation and logistics, from first contact to the end of the expedition.
  • 1% for the rewilding of Europe, a concrete commitment to give back to nature what it gives us.

Our priority: to offer you a quality experience, with complete clarity.
