Sweden, Norway, Finland: Lapland runs across all three, and Wildhartt doesn't shuttle you between them in an air-conditioned coach. Groups stay small, led by someone who lives up there year-round, not a guide flown in for the season.
There's a word up north for the pale blue light that lingers through the short winter days: kaamos. It's what makes the Northern Lights so sharp once real darkness falls, and it's why our lodges sit away from any town, on a frozen lake shore or facing the fjords, wherever the sky has the best odds of putting on a show.
Expect to snowshoe while hauling a pulk loaded with shared gear, or take the handlebar of a dog sled for a few hours and become, briefly, a musher. Depending on the trip, that might stretch to an afternoon with Sami reindeer herders or a wander through the ice hotel outside Kiruna. None of it requires experience: trips run from complete beginner up to something more demanding.
Come evening, it's a heated chalet or a mountain hut, a sauna to thaw out in, and a meal the whole group cooks together. Trips run December through March only, the stretch when the snow has properly settled and the nights are dark enough, long enough, to actually catch the lights.

Je suis vraiment ravie d'avoir choisi Wildhartt et d'avoir eu Titouan comme guide. Notre groupe était très sympathique et on partageait tous les mêmes idées, tandis que Marie, de Wildhartt, a veillé à ce que le voyage se déroule sans accroc. Titouan s'est montré merveilleusement à l'écoute, extrêmement compétent pour un guide de son âge, et a su adapter le rythme pour que tout le monde puisse suivre. Il était calme et on pouvait compter sur lui lorsque les choses se compliquaient, et il a parcouru les montagnes en faisant preuve d'un véritable respect pour la nature.
